SRINAGAR (Arrahmah.com) – As the world observes the International Women’s Day, yesterday (8/3/2011), India unabatedly continues to victimise Kashmiri women to suppress people’s legitimate demand of the right to self-determination in occupied Kashmir.
According to a report, released by the Research Section of Kashmir Media Service, thousands of women were among 93,559 civilians, martyred by Indian troops since January 1989 till March 2011.
The report maintained that 603 women were killed by the troops alone during January 2001 till date. Since January 1989 the state terrorism rendered 22,750 women widowed while 9988 were molested by the occupation troops.
The report pointed out that thousands of women in the occupied territory suffered the loss of their sons, husbands and brothers who got disappeared in custody. As per the Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons, more than ten thousand Kashmiris went missing during the past twenty-two years. It further maintained that majority of the Kashmiris suffering from multiple psychic problems was of womenfolk.
Veteran Kashmiri Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Gilani in a media interview in Srinagar, yesterday, said that Indian troops were using Kashmiri women as a weapon of war to suppress Kashmiris’ liberation struggle. He urged the international community to take cognisance of the atrocities being committed by Indian troops on women in the occupied territory. The APHC spokesman in a statement also expressed similar views.
The Executive Director of Kashmir Centre London, Professor Nazir Ahmed Shawl in his statement said that the plight of women in occupied Kashmiri should be a matter of concern for all the international human rights organisations. (KMS/arrahmah.com)
